Hello everyone! The last week of Summer School 2023 has come and gone, and we made the most of our warm summer days and time together.

The H Class came in on Monday ready to learn and play together. While we knew many of our classmates already from Cosmos, we also welcomed some new friends. Seeing old friends and meeting new ones is one of the best things about Summer School.

On Monday, we took a look at our beautiful and info-packed book, “Totally Amazing Sea Creatures”. A book stuffed with interesting and unbelievable facts about sea life, we couldn’t wait to dive in and start reading.

Did you know that flatfish starts with an eye on each side, but then one eye moves to the other?

Did you know that the crown-of-thorns starfish eats coral, and just a few of them can turn a reef into a dead zone?

Did you know that the pistol shrimp can use its claws to make a loud noise like a gun?

We didn’t either. Those are just some of the creatures we met in our reading this week.

We also had a lot of fun summer activities.

We had a great time visiting the aquarium on Wednesday. It’s always exciting to pile into the Cosmos Bus and travel together. At the museum, we were amazed by the jellyfish, both big and small. We laughed and screamed when the dolphins jumped and sent splashes of cool water all over us. We were able to touch an actual shark in the touch pools! It was a great experience to see “Totally Amazing Sea Creatures” in real life.

We also had a special summer treat on Thursday — a morning trip to the pool! This was just for older students, and we were delighted to have almost the entire pool just to ourselves. We swam, splashed, floated, relaxed, and learned to play the classic American pool game, “Marco Polo”. Thank you to the lifeguards for their hard work too!

On Friday, we made a mini-excursion to Kamakura Central Park. This has a fun playground with climbing equipment, cool shade to rest in, and even a zip line! Everyone had fun on our last day, and though we are sad to see Summer School end, we are already looking forward to next year and all the fun that we can have together once more.
