Hello everyone!  This is Andy reporting on Week 4 of Summer School.

In this week of Summer School, all the students explored the fascinating and important role of our Earth’s Volcanoes.  Students learned about the different parts of volcanoes and how when magma erupts from a volcano it becomes lava!

Along with learning about volcanoes, we also studied Rocks and the Geology around us.  In my class, we gathered different types of rocks from the park and compared them to each other.  The students had the chance to see all the different rocks and minerals just outside our School!
For our class reading, the students learned about different types of rocks.  We learned that rocks have different names for the size they are.  From a mountain to boulders, a boulder to stones, a stone to pebbles, a pebble to sand, and sand to dust.  Rocks are really all around us!
This week’s field trip to Zuisen-ji Temple was a great way to see the different types of Geology around Kamakura and to appreciate the amazing ways rocks can form.

In conclusion, we had a fun packed week learning about Volcanoes and Rocks!  We learned through exploring our surroundings, making crafts, reading, and so much more!
The Earth is truly a fascinating place to live!
